How it works

Five minutes to install. One season of pool shade.

Canopy Turtles bolt onto the bottom of any 10×10 pop-up canopy frame with three screws per leg. Five-minute setup. At the end of each pool day, take the canopy down — pop the Turtles off and store them in the included mesh bag if you want.

Install

Three steps. One screwdriver.

01

Lay the canopy flat.

Spread your collapsed 10×10 pop-up canopy upside down on a flat surface so the feet are facing up. Any standard frame works.

02

Slip on a Turtle.

Each Turtle has a slot sized to fit a standard canopy leg. Push it up over the foot until the screw holes line up with the leg.

03

Tighten three screws.

Drive the three included stainless screws through the Turtle and the leg. Nip them down snug — do not over-tighten. Repeat on the other three legs and you're done for the season.

A note on care. We recommend taking the canopy down at the end of each day. Overnight winds, rain or storms can flip any pop-up canopy — even with Turtles attached. Built to last for years when stored properly.

Which canopy to buy

Pick an economical 8×8 or 10×10 from Walmart or Academy.

You don't need a fancy canopy — just a standard pop-up. We've tested ours with the canopies stocked at Walmart and Academy Sports + Outdoors. The one you see in the photos and video is from Walmart.

  • Size: 8×8 or 10×10 — pick based on how much shade you want. 10×10 covers more pool, 8×8 is lighter and easier to take down.
  • Frame: Straight-leg designs give you more shade than slanted-leg models. Same footprint, more square feet under cover.
  • Feet: The Turtles are sized for the smaller pop-up canopy feet — the kind you see in our install photos (the close-up shot with the pliers). If the feet on your canopy look chunky or oversized, measure first.

We don't sell the canopies and we're not affiliated with either retailer — they're just where we've tested. Most other big-box stores carry similar 8×8 and 10×10 pop-ups too.

What's inside the shell

The patented design that makes it work.

The bottom of each Turtle is a smooth, contoured ABS shell with a wide footprint. It spreads canopy weight across the pool floor so the load on any one square inch stays low — that's what keeps vinyl, plaster, fiberglass and gunite scratch-free.

Submerged, the weight of the pool water presses down on the Turtle feet and pins the canopy in place. No sand to fill, no bags to drag around — the pool does the work.

U.S. Patent #D888865.
